SteamOS definitely isn’t made for a traditional desktop computer. It has a desktop environment for when you need it, but that’s basically bolted onto the side of Steam’s Big Picture mode. It would likely work well if you have a dedicated PC for your living room TV. But for a traditional desktop setup, you’d likely want something else.

Maybe Bazzite? It’s basically built for gaming, but doesn’t default to Steam’s Big Picture mode like SteamOS does. It comes with Nvidia drivers pre-installed, which is a big sticking point for lots of people; many have found and/or lost religion while trying to install Nvidia drivers on Linux, so having them ready out-of-the-box is a big selling point. And you can choose which desktop environment you’d prefer when installing it; I’d suggest KDE if you’re familiar with Windows, or Gnome if you prefer MacOS. It’s immutable, which is, to put it simply, controversial. Some people love it, because it means you won’t accidentally destroy your OS. But others find it limiting, because they enjoy being able to go elbow-deep in their OS config.

My buddy is from South Carolina, and I distinctly remember the first time he said this. We were hanging out in his living room with some other friends, and it started to storm. He dropped the “devil’s beating his wife with a frying pan” line, and I swear it was a record scratch moment for everyone in the room. Genetics also plays a large part in greying. I started going grey in my early 20’s. Rather than fight it, I chose to embrace it. I’m in my mid 30’s now, probably ~40% grey, and consistently get “silver fox” and “salt and pepper” types of comments. Fighting against it often leads to people spotting when you need to touch up your roots. But embracing it and styling your hair to accentuate it will make it look much more natural and attractive.

Jokes aside, Adobe refuses to play nice with Linux. It likely won’t matter which distro you choose, because Adobe refuses to release a native Linux version. You can use Wine as a workaround, at least.

I mean, there’s also the whole “wait staff and car wash attendants aren’t necessary to the survival of a civilization” thing. Crop workers are absolutely vital to the long-term survival of civilization, but we could live perfectly fulfilling lives without car washes or restaurants.

It’s important to remember that the entire world is only 3-5 missed meals away from anarchy. And not the nice “everyone in a neighborhood banding together to protect and feed their neighbors” type of anarchy either.

My office is bad about the cookie thing too. My office is split across two different buildings.

I have worked here for several years, and we only found out a month ago that the main building has free bagels in the break room every Monday morning. The main building never bothered to tell us, because it’s donated from the local bagel shop as a “there until they’re all gone” situation. And the office drones in the main building didn’t want to share, so they just never told any of us in the secondary building.

We only found out because the bagel shop wanted to do an event in our secondary building. The main building was extremely pushy about us making sure it went well, and offered a bunch of free shit too. We finally chatted to the bagel shop owner about how odd it was that the main building was so invested. She casually dropped the “oh that’s probably just because of all the free bagels we send y’all every week haha” type of comment.

Did some digging, and sure enough the owner sends like a hundred bagels over to the main building every Monday morning. She always assumed that they were sharing, because it’s way too many bagels for just the primary building… But it turns out the employees over there were just hungry hippo’ing the break room table and taking like six bagels home every week.

Yeah, I’m a manager and I fully encourage my staff to take tips and gifts even though it’s against company policy. If a client offers a tip, I normally respond with something like “I don’t take tips, but if you and the part-timer want to to walk around the corner where there’s no security cameras, I’ll stay right here so I don’t see any money change hands.”

The part-timers need the money more than I do anyways. $50 won’t make a huge difference to me, but could be the determining factor in whether or not the part-timer has enough gas money to get to class next week. Plus they’re the actual boots on the ground making sure the day-to-day runs smoothly. I’m just doing paperwork and hanging out in case any big issues pop up.

Allow apps to natively integrate alternative cloud services like Google Drive or DropBox. So many apps sync directly to iCloud, but have no way of natively changing that default sync location. Ran into this issue a while ago, where my work uses iPads in the field, but they can’t sync anything with each other because my employer has fully committed to the Google ecosystem. So I can’t just grab any iPad off of the charging rack and continue where I left off; I need to grab the specific iPad that I was using last time.

Correct. Readarr’s biggest issue was that the metadata server was almost always offline/horribly rate limited. And Readarr was built in a way that you couldn’t add new media requests without a working metadata server. So oftentimes, you simply couldn’t add any media to your requests.

Rreading-glasses is an open source metadata server that you can point Readarr at. It simply solves the metadata server issues.
