I don’t see how they can even pretend that it will do anything other than steal website traffic, since the exact point is to provide you with the information you would have gotten if you had gone to the website, leaving no reason to actually go to the website.

So painfully obviously, Google intends to steal the websites’ content in order to steal the websites’ traffic.

Which would seem to me to be grounds for class action lawsuits on behalf of the entire internet, which, if judged fairly, should bankrupt even that foul beast of a corporation.

And ironically enough, that would almost certainly “rejuvenate the internet.” As a matter of fact, I can’t think of a single thing that would do more to “rejuvenate the internet” than killing Google.

In the interest of clarity, I don’t think that Johnson quite qualifies as a hypocrite, since a hypocrite has to have something at least resembling principles, and Johnson appears to have nothing of the sort.

He appears to be an essentially complete, full-time toady, ready and willing and even eager to mouth whatever he thinks will please whoever he’s desperate to please at the moment. I don’t think he’s ever had a thought or opinion of his own in his entire life.

Funny but no matter where I look, I can’t find a figure for how many people come of age/graduate/finish apprenticeship/get licensed or in some other way enter the workforce in a given month, or for how many people retire/quit/die or in some other way leave the workforce.

Without knowing what those numbers are, this number is meaningless - there’s no way of telling if it outstrips, keeps pace with or even lags behind the likely ongoing growth in the labor pool.

Pay extra attention to Israel over the next day or two - when they suddenly do something like this, it’s to distract from something much worse they are doing or plan to do.

If I was a betting man, I’d be betting on them murdering the Freedom Flotilla.

The difficulty, I think, is that there are two different conceptions of respect here.

At the most fundamental level, there’s the respect that should automatically be granted to everyone - respect for the simple fact that they’re a human being, and thus deserving of a basic level of treatment and set of rights.

But there’s also a secondary level of respect - the respect that’s granted to a person who’s shown themselves to deserve it by being generally decent, kind, generous, honest, etc.

So in a sense, James really does not deserve respect - he hasn’t earned that secondary level of it.

But the problem is that using preferred gender and name is more in line with the first sort of respect than the second - not something that you grant only to a person who’s earned it, but something you should grant to any fellow human automatically.

So I’d have to say that Dominic is TA, but only sort of minimally.

Maybe a sort of compromise would be in order - Dominic can call James something like “James the asshole” and thereby meet the first level of respect while still overtly denying the second.

I’m sort of kidding with that.

I can’t even imagine what it must be like to be so ethically bankrupt that your response to your company’s failure to safely implement a new technology isn’t to redouble your efforts but to lobby to get the safety standards lowered and to try to hide your crash data.

So we’re actually in a timeline in which a person in a nominally respected position unironically publicly demands that people who oppose mass murder be banned from social media so that the mass murderers and the people who support them can continue to engage in/support mass murder in comfort and safety.
